It’s obvious to most business owners, online marketers and sales people alike that “more customers” is key. For most businesses today, that translates to “more traffic” online. There are many ways you can increase traffic on your business website, and in this post, I’ll give you 5 powerful Surefire Traffic Firestarters.

1. Advertise Yourself

This one is the top of the head choice, so we’re going to look at it first. Paid online search, social media advertising and display advertising are all awesome ways to attract visitors, build up your brand image and get your site in front of people. Adjust your paid strategies to suit your business needs – do you just want increased traffic, or are you looking to increase conversions as well? Each paid medium has pros and cons, so think carefully about your goals before you put 5 on it.

Conversions are the best types of traffic, and for that, you’ll need to target high commercial intent keywords as part of your paid search strategy. These search terms can often be saturated and expensive, but the payoffs can be huge if played right.

 

2. Social Media It Up

Even if your content is genuine, real, and really good, you still have to work to get people to check it out. One of the best ways to increase traffic to your website for free is to use social media channels to promote your content. Twitter is good for quick and short links (make them tempting), although Google+ promotion can help your site show up in personalized search results and has proven effective in B2B markets. If you’re a B2C product company, like a sandwich shop or something, you might find you’ll get a reaction with image-centric social sites such as Pinterest and Instagram.

 

3. Make More Comments

Commenting is not like advertising, but more like Public Relations. Many people don’t realize the power of Public Relations today, although most people wouldn’t eat bacon, or smoke cigarettes if it wasn’t for the genius tactics used in PR. Commenting with insight and good information will build credibility for your name, and will help foster a strong band image. When commenting, the quality and relevance of your comments are key – you should be engaging with other people in your industry, not dropping spam links on unrelated websites.

 

4. Make a Media Salad

All content has value, and if you only focus on blog posts, or only videos, or only pictures, it will be more difficult to get traffic using those methods.. For that reason, vary the format of your content so that it’s as appealing as possible to different kinds of readers and viewers alike. use short and long blog posts as well as video, infographics, pictures and data-driven pieces for maximum impact. You’ll notice that I’ve uploaded a video to this blog post as well. I’ve also included images, and broken up the text by using larger and smaller text sizes.

 

5. Use your Analytics Data to Your Advantage

Eventually, you’ll get some traffic if you use these techniques, and with that traffic you can use Google Analytics (which is completely free to use) to research HOW people are interacting with your website. This will help you determine what web posts are more exciting than others. Google Analytics is an invaluable source of data on just about every single section of your site, from your most viewed pages to visitor information and demographics. Keep a close eye on your Analytics data, and use that information to inform your promotional and content campaigns. Pay attention to what posts and pages are gaining the most views. Use your traffic visitor data to see how, where and when your site traffic is coming from.
